Meet Dr. Sturdevant

Dentist, Owner

Dr. Sturdevant is native to the Chapel Hill area and grew up just a few minutes from the office. He attended The University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he distinguished himself, receiving multiple awards for academic performance. His diligent work was rewarded and he received admission to the UNC School of Dentistry a year early, after three years of undergraduate study. After completing four years of dental school at UNC, he decided to go into private practice locally, and took over Carrboro Family Dentistry in 2018.

Dr. Sturdevant is dedicated to delivering an exceptional patient experience defined by integrity, trust, and clinical precision. At a time when many dental practices have become insurance-driven or overly aggressive in treatment planning, he maintains a patient-first philosophy focused on long-term relationships, prevention, and conservative treatment when necessary. With a commitment to doing what is best for each individual, Dr. Sturdevant focuses exclusively on general dentistry and works in close partnership with a select group of specialists to ensure patients receive the highest level of care when more complex treatment is needed.

In his free time you can find Adam undertaking a wide variety of DIY projects and hiking local trails with his wife Colleen and Carolina dog Pepper. He attends the Chapel Hill Bible Church and is a member of the Triangle Christian Medical and Dental Association.

Our Dental Heritage

Dr. Roger E. Sturdevant, DDS

Dr. Clifford M. Sturdevant, one of Dr. Roger Sturdevant’s two sons, follows in his father’s footsteps and earns his dental degree from Emory University School of Dentistry. He serves in the U.S. Army Dental Corps during World War II before returning to Emory to begin his academic career. He later joins his father in Chapel Hill to teach at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, where he serves as Chairman of Operative Dentistry. A pioneer in dental education and research, he authors the landmark textbook Sturdevant’s Art and Science of Operative Dentistry.

1968

Seeing a lack of comprehensive resources for teaching operative dentistry, the study of fillings and the treatment of tooth decay, Dr. Cliff sets out to write his own textbook. He types the original manuscript in his basement on a typewriter, creating what becomes Sturdevant’s Art and Science of Operative Dentistry. The book goes on to become the best-selling dental textbook in the world, translated into numerous languages. Now in its eighth edition, it remains the global standard in dental education.

After graduating from the UNC School of Dentistry in 2017, he decides to be the first in four generations to take the Sturdevant name into private practice. Building on a century of academic excellence, he sets out to bring the family’s principles of integrity, precision, and patient-centered care to everyday clinical practice.
